'MAD' Kelly Loves his Kombi

I have a good friend "MAD" Kelly who is obsessed with his Kombi. This guy once installed hard wood jarrah floorboards just for the fuck of it. Kelly told me that he decided to give the interior of the Kombi a Mexican Day of the Dead inspired renovation. This included chili string lights and two brilliant painted cupboard doors. The dude even started a tequila bar in the bloody Kombi.......... By the way Im really digging the 'Mary' piece.......

Im not a massive fan of steampunk. I generally think that its only for hipster douches that are trying to be " oh soooo arty and individual". I lay the blame for this resurgent in douchness at the feet of Will Smith and that poor arse excuse for a movie Wild Wild West.

But this cat may now be changing his tune. I stumbled onto a fairly cool example of steampunk sculptures that made me reconsider my view on the sub culture. These cool steampunk raygun's were found in the new gallery at lick clothing in Fremantle. they remind me of Flash Gordan and the like. If I was going to walk into any Cantina on Tatooine I want to be brandishing one of these suckers !!

On the weekend was the much anticipated Norfolk Lanes Festival. I was asked along side of a bunch of very talented artists to paint 2.4 x 2.4 sided cubes. I was really stoked to be asked along to this event. It was a beautiful sunny day to be outside painting. Besides battling a self induced illness I had a shit load of fun ! It was nice to meet up with the other artists and random public. Thanks to the lovely crew at the Butchersshop for supplying the paint and also the beautiful people that organized the event........... big love

So about a month ago I painted over the girl blowing love hearts on South Terrace in Fremantle, much to the demise of my sister in law and others. I liked the piece but I thought that It was time for a little change. I wanted to do an image that was typically "Freo" or something that captured the feeling of the town. For some reason I came up with the image of a kombi. Im happy with the finished piece but I dont think that it had as much of a dynamic presence as the previous painting. Anyhoo Im probably going to paint over it with another design in a few months. these are some of the progressive shots from the day

I Love Margret River !!!! I spent many of my formative years down there. Resonantly there has been moves to implement oil drilling off this pristine coastline. On the weekend there was a charity auction to raise money for the "No Oil For SW Beaches" organization. I was happy to hear that the piece that I donated for the auction sold.

Aubergines Cafe in South Fremantle

This is a recant commission by the crew at Aubergines Cafe in South Fremantle. The brief that I got was to incorporate a goat and a coffee tree. The story goes that a goat herder saw his goats peaking after eating from a strange bush and hence we now have coffee !!

Im not totally sold on the tree, still developing can control. Over all Im happy with the outcome......

These are some progressive shots of creating the mural. I thought that some peeps might like to see how I work or it might give you and idea how it was created...... I hope you like it.

Ive been practicing my game show girl stance in the mirror..... I think that I can say it been time well spent....taaadaaaaa !!!!!

Freo Restoration Crew

Im a huge fan of those old hand painted signs that you can find on really old buildings. They hark back to an era when painters and artists were payed and respected for their crafts. Now with cheap digital reproduction any drooling six year old can push out a design.

....... sorry I got off the topic .........

There is one of these hand painted signs in the heartland of the Freo area. This sign harks back to a historic stage in the development of this portside community. Unfortunately some years back this aging sign was defaced by someone that may not have recognized the significance of this sign.

This defacement was left on the Freo relic for years until a small band of good looking young men could stand for this injustice no longer.

The devilishly handsome and may I add extremely funny group of young men took it upon themselves to restore some of this sacred image.

We can only hope that the Freo council takes it upon themselves to get a professional restoration team to complete the job that these handsome young gentlemen started.

Family portraits suck !!

I only ever remember having to go through one "proper" family portrait. There was a big fight cos I wanted to whear my ripped up "Bad Billy" shirt and mess up my hair. My Mum on the other hand had to hog tie me and stuff me in a paisley shirt and slick my hair down with jell.

Fortunately Tim Rollins "Family Portrats" are free of all paisley shirts and aquard smiles. Unfortunately I dont think that I can make the opening but its defiantly worth checking out. This guy goes off like a frog in a sock !!
